A brief description of the lymphatic system physiology is presented with respect to its drainage-transport function. The pathophysiology of secondary lymphoedema caused by surgical lymphadenectomy and radiotherapy of the regional lymphatic nodes in malignant diseases is discussed. An easily available pharmacotherapy, using systemically administered proteinases, is stressed. This treatment in conjunction with physiotherapy is considered as the prime method of choice.
